Maiden Tower cafe and museum is like a hidden treasure right by the Danish King’s garden. It’s right here where in 1219 the story of Tallinn as a city began. It’s part of the many museums of Tallinna Linnamuuseum cluster. The tower serves as a museum and cafe and is connected to the Kiek in de Kök defence tower as well as two other towers. So step in and wander around, take in the amazing city views and enjoy it all with your favourite cup of hot drink. Then venture out on the kind of city wall part and visit the other towers. Adult ticket to the Maiden Tower is just 3 euros and the joint ticket to all of the four towers is 7 euros. When you already bought a Tallinn Card the towers are all free for you to discover.

By the end of February and beginning of March, most countryside folks were out of meat in the old days. Vastlapäev or Shrove Tuesday was the last feast before 7-week fasting period until the Easter holidays. Traditionally pea soup with smoked meat was served and in the more modern time buns with fresh whipped cream. But there are of course lots of other traditions and tales around this celebration. Like sledding for example! Estonian Open Air Museum (Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum) celebrates the coming Shrove Tuesday this weekend (March 3 to 5) with an extensive programme. You can learn all about the festivities and taste the typical foods there or any cafe around the city. Those yummy buns have flooded the town already.

Estonia has a tank and that will be shown on Freedom Square during a parade, for example. No but seriously, instead of military show-off, we vouch for Kiek in de Kök, Tallinn museum or Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum / Estonian Open Air Museum for the day, and dinner in Vegan Restoran V 🙂

February 24 is a public holiday in Estonia, but it’s a little more special than your usual day off from work, since the country celebrates 99 years of freedom on that very day. So if you happen to be in town or you’re planning to visit on that day, here are some tips on how to celebrate the day of…
