A bit more romance and enchantment to this week. This is Cara Jasmine Bradley’s story: “The Old Town of Tallinn is one of the most sublimely mysterious places I have ever been. A weave of cobbled streets afore small, thatched buildings set above a turquoise pond, Tallinn Old Town delighted me quite panoramically.” Read more of her thoughts on Tallinn below.
What a perfect sunny Saturday for a visit to Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum / Estonian Open Air Museum! Hop on the bus from Freedom Square (200 meters from the hostel), and off you go 🙂
Kadriorg is a quiet, leafy area with easy walking distance of Old Town. At the centre of the park area is the stunning, Northern Baroque palace that Peter the Great built as a summer residence in 1718. Designed by Italian architect Niccolo Michetti, the palace and surrounding gardens are humbling example of Tsarist extravagance. Today the palace is home to Kadrioru kunstimuuseum or Kadriorg Art Museum and displays hundreds of 16 to 20th century paintings by Western and Russian artists.
Stone throw away from the palace is Restoran Mon Repos housed in a beautiful villa. The house was originally built already in 1870s as summer house for owner Sadowski. It operated as a restaurant with cabaret, dining hall and casino already in 1920s. Today the restaurant is a brilliant way to end your Kadriorg round trip with culinary surprises.
Note that all of the art museums in Kadriorg are free with Tallinn Card: http://www.bit.ly/TallinnCard2019
Getting to Friday is our main skill. And then this.
One of these days when a long term guest sets off… bittersweet, and oh-so-very-hostel. Such is life, we come and go, leave pieces behind to maybe some day return.
Thank you Shang-Yi Yu for choosing us to be your home in Tallinn! Welcome back always 🌏❤️
Now repeat after me:
So… it’s -17 celsius right now.
There’s no bad weather, only dumb clothing choices. A smart choice for today is layers, layers, layers, and long johns underneath them layers.
Packing for a trip that takes you several latitudes or longitudes away from home is challenging. Estonians are used to the tricky weather and…
It’s hard to caption this photo…
but we’ll go with “EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR”!
Here’s to your speedy return, Domn 🦄
We love you!
